As we arrived at the location where we were all meeting this morning we were greeted with 10 degrees below zero air temps but not much winds early. After getting out to the ice houses we found the fishing to be a bit slow with a very strong current flowing to the north. We have found this season that with the strong currents we have had less success but as the current slows or stalls we get much better action. As the day went on we still never had great action just catching a few fish here and a few there with about one hour being pretty fast action. We did manage to catch a good mess of fish today but we had to work more for them but everyone had fun and had a great time and we will be back at them tomorrow.
We enjoyed another wonderful day on the ice fishing in Door County catching many quality Whitefish with well over a full limit catch with many fish being released. The morning started with no current being present but plenty of fish but they were being a bit picky. As the day went on the current began to push from the north and the fish became more active but you really had to feel the fish due to the current pushing your line. Our best baits were once again the #3 Rapala jigging raps and the jigging Shad Raps in colors of gold and perch.
Well after a really brutal day with the weather on the Bay of Green Bay yesterday with winds blowing around 40 plus MPH all day today was a much more pleasant day with very little winds but cold temps. We set out to the ice houses at 8am and found the whitefish to be very present but were a bit picky about eating. After changing bait sizes and colors we were able to get some quality fish on the ice and then late morning they became very inactive. Making a short move to deeper water we began getting a few more fish and as the afternoon went on the fish became much more active with many nice size fish being caught and a good round limit in the box with many other fish being released.
Her is a picture of a bonus Lake Trout that we caught the other night while we were jigging for walleyes. Five of us were out with a beautiful evening with no winds mild temps an a awesome sunset when two of us hooked into fish at the same time one of them being a walleye and I hooked this beautiful looking Lake Trout it was an enjoyable evening with one other walleye being caught.
