Door County Ice Fishing Green Bay Jan 27th

Today proved to be another great day on the Bay of Green Bay ice fishing in Door County. We have been continuing fishing the whitefish during the day in water depth from 45 to 60 feet of water. Todays best baits were once again Rapala Jigging raps in size #3 and #2 when the current was blowing harder we used the heavier #3 and when the current would let up we had success using the smaller #2 jigging raps.

Today brought us to fishing a new location for both whitefish and walleyes. When we arrived to our location we began fishing whitefish in water depths of 60 feet and found the fish to be pretty active with nice size fish being caught. We once again found our best success using Rapala jigging Raps in the color of black and gold fishing them close to the bottom. As the day was coming to an end we moved shallower to fish for walleyes and it was not long before we had our first fish on the ice. As usual we do not get a lot of bites with the walleyes here in Door County so every bite counts. We did have a few walleyes come in to take a look at our baits but we only iced one fish tonight and that is all right the fish are present and we will continue to put our time in on them and we will catch our fish.

Well what a change the weather brought us today. Yesterday we started the day with no winds and mild temps through out the day ending the day with an approaching cold front which brought much colder temps today and wind blowing out of the north this morning. After getting out to the ice houses and getting everyone set up we found the fishing to be a bit slow to start. But after a while the fish began to become more active and through out the day everyone was able to get a good limit of quality Door County whitefish with a bonus Bourbut. We once again found the best action coming on Rapala baits such as the jigging Rap along with the jigging shad rap.

Today began in the dark shuttling groups out to the proven whitefish grounds. After getting everyone out and getting settled into the ice houses we found we had a pretty good current coming from the north which had lots of fish present but they were being very picky and not to active. Of course every day is different and you have to play around with different baits and sizes along with color to see what the fish will respond best to every day and we did that but it seemed the key for us today was to just slow down the presentation and be easy with reeling in the fish when they did bite to try not to lose them they were biting very light. Tomorrow will be another day at them and we will see what we are faced with tomorrow.
