Well the weather continues to cooperate keeping the ice we do have good, but we do have warmer weather coming in this weekend. In the areas that we are fishing we have anywhere from 9 to 11 inches of ice which has been plenty safe for travel with ATV. We continue to fish for Walleye and Northern pike along with catching some nice bluegill jigging during the day. The walleye action has been best early morning along with the last hour or so of the day but some Walleye coming through the day. The walleye that we are catching are coming on tip-ups along with jigging for them with a jig and minnow.
Well we were back on the ice again yesterday once again chasing both walleyes and Northern Pike. The fishing in the morning started slow for us but as the morning went on and in to the afternoon the action got a little better for us resulting in a handful of Pike along with one walleye. We were once again jigging with VMC hammer head jigs and using tip-ups baited with shiner minnows. We only fished until 3pm yesterday and did not take advantage of the prime time for walleyes at sunset. Ice conditions in the area where we were had very smooth ice with just a bit more than 8 inches.
While we do not have a lot of ice in Door County yet we have been able to form some ice in certain areas with the colder weather we have had. The ice that we have been checking and fishing has had anywhere from 6 to 9 inches of ice in most areas. We have been targeting both Walleyes and Northern Pike and having moderate success with some days being a bit better than others. Our presentations have been both jigging and using tip-ups with shiner minnows.
